Antibiotic therapy under the microscope of a pharmacist

Nationwide educational campaign

Project goal

The "Antibiotic Therapy Under the Pharmacist's Microscope" campaign aims to raise public awareness of the challenges associated with the rational use of antibiotics and to remind the public of the crucial role of pharmacists in this process. This educational initiative is organized annually by the Polish Pharmacy Students' Association to mark European Antibiotic Awareness Day (November 18).

At a time when inappropriate antibiotic use leads to the growing problem of antibiotic resistance, it is crucial to provide reliable knowledge – both about the risks and practical principles of safe therapy.

What the program includes:

  • Introduction to antibiotic therapy: mechanism of action, scope of application, correct conditions of use.
  • Explaining the problem of antibiotic resistance – how inappropriate therapy promotes the selection of resistant bacteria and limits the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Practical tips for daily antibiotic use:
    - take exactly as directed by your doctor,
    - ensuring regular dose times,
    - avoiding alcohol during treatment,
    - taking medications properly (e.g. with water),
    - using probiotics as shields - to protect the body's natural microbial flora.
  • Activating work methods – in addition to multimedia presentations, we use quizzes, brainstorming, worksheets and other interactive forms to motivate participants to reflect and ask questions.
  • Interactive educational elements: quizzes, discussions, group work – so that participants can actively engage with the topic.

For whom?

The campaign is aimed at:

  • Students of primary and secondary schools.
  • High school students.
  • Adults, including seniors.
  • Educational institutions and social welfare facilities.

Why is this important?

  • Growing antibiotic resistance – inappropriate use of antibiotics leads to bacteria becoming resistant to subsequent drugs, making it difficult to treat many infections.
  • Risk of side effects – antibiotics do not distinguish between “good” and “bad” bacteria, which may result in disruption of intestinal flora, diarrhea, and secondary infections.
  • Lack of patient awareness – many people use antibiotics “on their own”, stop the treatment prematurely or do not consult a pharmacist or doctor before use.
  • Strengthening the role of the pharmacist – pharmacists can guide patients through the therapy process, explaining rules and dispelling doubts.

Invitation to cooperation

We invite schools, community centers, libraries, educational and healthcare institutions, non-governmental organizations, and individuals to collaborate on the "Antibiotic Therapy Under the Pharmacist's Eye." We will be happy to conduct lectures and workshops tailored to your audience. If you would like us to visit your facility or would like to co-create this initiative, please contact us. write to us:
